Zillow Strikes the #EachforEqual Pose for Gender Equity on International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is a day to think about how far the world has come in giving women access to opportunities. This year’s theme, “Each for Equal” means that we all have a critical part in creating a gender equal world. Type #EachforEqual into any social media app this week and you’ll see the stories of men and women challenging stereotypes and rallying for equality. 

Equity and inclusion are part of Zillow’s DNA. We have a bias-free hiring system that ensures we are a company with diverse perspectives and experiences, which challenges us to listen and think differently. The result is that we learn to care more deeply about each other, our work, and our customers. 

“I have spent close to two decades encouraging women to advocate for themselves,” said Dawn Lyon, Zillow Chief Corporate Relations Officer. “I’ve also called on executives to ensure pay equity at all levels, something we’ve achieved at Zillow, where women earn $1.01 for every dollar a man makes in a comparable role with similar experience.”

The work Zillow staffers do to amplify the voices, strengths and perspectives of all employees was recognized earlier this year, when we were included on two of the most prestigious workplace equality indexes: the 2020 Bloomberg Gender Equality Index and the 2020 Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index, where we achieved a perfect score. 

Zillow is also proud to have placed on the Fortune and Great Place to Work’s Best Workplaces for Women list for three consecutive years. This award is especially meaningful because it is largely based on anonymous survey details our women employees shared about the programs and practices that make Zillow Group unique, and how fairly those experiences compared to the men at Zillow.

We use gender diverse hiring panels and this has increased the number of women hired by an average of 14 percent, with some teams seeing increases as high as 26 percent. Women currently make up 42% of Zillow Group’s total workforce and 22% of its Board of Directors. 

And while not all women are mothers, Zillow does provide inclusive benefits to those who are – like 16 weeks of paid leave for delivering mothers and eight weeks to non-delivering parents, emergency back-up childcare, and free overnight breastmilk shipping for mothers traveling on business.
