Tough Mudder Coach Inspires Zillow Employees at Rally

Nothing builds camaraderie like running through a quicksand-like mud pit.

Nothing builds camaraderie like running through a quicksand-like mud pit. That’s why, for the second year in a row, Zillow Group is sponsoring employee registrations for Tough Mudder — a 10-mile obstacle course designed to test mental and physical strength while prioritizing teamwork over individual rankings.

Participants are encouraged to help out others during the obstacles with the objective of leaving no one behind. As a charity partner with the Wounded Warrior Project, Tough Mudder also allows participants to support a great cause while having fun. It’s not a timed event, but just making it through the entire course is a huge win for participants.

The event is a great fit for Zillow Group, where importance is placed on the value of teamwork. Employees in all offices — Seattle, Lincoln, Irvine, New York, San Francisco and Vancouver, Canada — were given an opportunity to sign up for a Tough Mudder in their region and join coworkers for a day of fun outside the office.

In order to get Seattle participants pumped, the company hosted a pep rally on the day before their event. Kyle Railton, the Tough Mudder coach, joined the participants, led stretches, explained how the course would work and got everyone excited for the challenge.

Alison Paoli, one of the event organizers, said she was thrilled to be a part of bringing the Tough Mudder experience to her coworkers.

“Last year I chose to help out with Tough Mudder because I personally enjoy participating in obstacle races that challenge both your body and mind. I thought others might enjoy it, too. It turns out I was right!” Paoli said.

And she certainly was. More than 350 Zillow Group employees are participating in Tough Mudder this year. Want to be one of them next year? Check out our open jobs.
