When you message about a participating rental on Zillow, you’ll now chat with an intelligent assistant that responds in real time. It can answer questions about availability, pet policies, parking and more — at any time, 24/7 — and even help you schedule a tour on the spot, without waiting for a callback.

“Renting a home should be simple, straightforward and stress-free. Too often the process is slowed down by missed messages or delayed replies,” said Michael Sherman, senior vice president of rentals at Zillow. “With the help of AI, we’re making it faster for renters to get the information they need and easier for property managers to stay connected, creating a better experience for everyone involved.”

How it works

AI Assist is a new feature on Zillow rental listings that have been opted in, and is powered by EliseAI’s smart leasing technology. When a renter requests a tour or sends a message, the assistant responds instantly with property details, answers to common questions and scheduling options.

All conversations — texts, emails, voice messages and chats — appear in the Zillow Renter inbox, keeping everything organized in one place. That means renters can track their questions, tour requests and messages without ever leaving Zillow.

Here’s what you can expect from AI Assist when you interact with a Zillow Rentals apartment listing that uses this feature:

  • Replies instantly any time of day.
  • Helps renters get answers based on the property details provided.
  • Makes tour scheduling easy. Choose a time that works for you and the assistant confirms it immediately.
  • Provides clear next steps so you always know where you are in the process.

With AI Assist, renters can quickly get answers to everyday questions — such as “Are utilities included?” or “Is there on-site parking?” — and even schedule a tour, making it easier to move forward without the usual back-and-forth.

You’ll always know when you’re chatting with AI Assist. If you ever need human assistance, a property manager can join the conversation.
