Happy birthday, Zillow Mobile. April marks four years since we launched our first app, Zillow for iPhone. Since then, we’ve learned a tremendous amount from our users, and we learned just how powerful the marriage of real estate and mobile can be.

On this anniversary, we’re excited to announce the relaunch of Zillow Real Estate Apps for iPhone and iPad, introducing a streamlined interface that significantly improves the Zillow app experience for home shoppers.

Based on consumer feedback and reviews, as well as analysis of usage patterns, the enhanced design allows users to more easily access all the information Zillow has to offer and to customize their experience based on their goals. Additionally, because more than 70 percent of homeowners have a mortgage, we’ve added financial tools and the rich shopping experience of Zillow Mortgage Marketplace into the iPad app.

More specifically, improvements to the iPhone and iPad apps include:

  • A completely updated home screen menu (see right) that enables shoppers to access the breadth of Zillow’s inventory and personalized shopping tools with just one tap.
  • Restructured navigation that separates home searches and filters into three tabs: for sale, for rent and all homes. This will allow shoppers to quickly narrow their search, making it even easier and faster for on-the-go home shoppers to find the dream home they’re looking for.
  • Integration of Zillow Mortgage Marketplace and its financial calculators, providing users with instant access to research, shop for and compare mortgages, without ever leaving the app they use to search for homes.

Zillow’s mobile business continues to grow exponentially. Last month, Zillow’s mobile traffic hit a new record, with 89 homes viewed per second on Zillow from a mobile device, compared to 75 homes per second the previous month. Mobile now accounts for 55 percent of Zillow’s visits; on weekends it’s over 60 percent.

We are constantly striving to innovate and improve our products by incorporating intuitive features and providing people with information about homes— and home financing — whenever and wherever they need it. With this overhaul to our core real estate apps, we’ve made it easier for shoppers to do just that. To try out the new Zillow Real Estate App, you can download it for free from the App Store on iPad or iPhone.
