Our Industry

Streamlining the Zillow Experience

As we continue to learn and innovate to best serve our mutual customers, we are taking steps to make it even easier for Canadian home shoppers to unlock life’s next chapter.

Streamlined Data Management

To start, we’re simplifying the way we collect listing data, moving from thousands of disparate data feeds to Internet Data Exchange (IDX) feeds in both Canada and the U.S. We’ll do this by becoming participant brokers on local Boards in both countries. We plan to move to these IDX feeds in Canada in early 2021.

These direct listing feeds will help realize Zillow’s goal of offering our more than 200 million unique monthly visitors across our sites the most up-to-date and comprehensive listing information possible.

Simplifying Transactions

We’ve also announced steps we’re taking in the U.S. early next year to streamline transactions for customers who use our Zillow Offers service. By selling through Zillow Offers, customers are able to eliminate the time and resources required to prepare for and list a home, including skipping open houses and showings and minimizing in-person interaction.

Although Zillow (Canada) Inc. will be licensed in most provinces, we don’t have plans to list homes or represent buyers in Canada. We will continue connecting our growing audience of Canadian consumers with our local agent and broker partners.

Questions?

We invite you to find out more in this Q&A, and hope that you’ll reach out to your Industry Relations Representative to learn more.

What is the process for Zillow changing its Board relationships?

Beginning late 2020, we are beginning the process of becoming participant brokers on local Boards in both Canada and the U.S. During this process, we will also apply to receive Internet Data Exchange (IDX) feeds. We will continue to honor the data agreements we have in place while the IDX agreements are processed to continue to serve our mutual customers with the most up-to-date and robust search experience available.

What is the timeframe for Zillow changing its Board relationships?

We expect to launch our new IDX driven site beginning in January 2021. There will be ample time for our applications to be processed and reviewed without putting undue burden or time constraints on our partners.

Are there other big changes coming that could impact my business or relationship with Zillow?

The way we do business with you today will remain largely unchanged — connecting your expertise and exceptional customer service skills with home shoppers will remain a core part of our business going forward. Although Zillow (Canada) Inc. will be licensed in most provinces, and will be joining local Boards, we don’t have plans to list homes or represent buyers in Canada. We will continue connecting our growing audience of Canadian consumers with our local agent and broker partners.
